Your Governing Body
The composition of the Governing Body is set by Government legislation. Currently, we have eight Foundation Governors, two of whom are Parents, who are appointed by the Diocesan Board of Education, Peterborough, on nomination by the Parochial Church Council. There are two Staff Governors,  one Governor appointed by the LA and two Parent Governors. The Headteacher is a Governor and the Rector of Tiffield is an Associate Governor. The official representative of the parents are the Parent Governors and parents should feel free to ask the Parent Governors to raise any matters of interest or concern at Governor's meetings. Of course, Foundation Governors may also be parents of children formerly at the school' Back to top
When we meet
The Governing Body meets twice a term. Many members also serve on the sub-committees, which meet each term, and Governors also visit the school to see the children at work. Governors attend training sessions as required. Once a term the Headteacher presents a report on the school's activities. Back to top
What we do
The responsibilities of the Governing Body are legally defined. In very broad terms our key role is in managing the school?s budget, that is - using the money we get from the LA and various Government Funds to pay staff and run the school. We do not raise funds ourselves or have ready access to other funds. We also appoint the Headteacher. The Governors make sure that the curriculum for the school is broadly balanced and includes the National Curriculum and Religious Education, and that appropriate targets at Key Stage 2 are set. We also have duties concerning reporting National Curriculum assessments, performance management and  special educational needs. Back to top
Why are we different
Tiffield School is a Church of England voluntary aided (CEVA) school and this is reflected in the remit the Governors have, compared to Church of England controlled schools or those solely under Local Authority control. The Governing Body technically has to bear the cost of outside repairs and maintenance of the school, but we do this via grants from the LA and Diocesan Board of Education. We must have a majority of Governors who are Church appointees. The Governing body fixes admission rules in consultation with the LA and decides on the allocation of places. We also have to ensure worship and RE are of the appropriate Christian character. Although the LA pays the staff, the Governing Body employs the staff. Back to top
